About OSIIX

OSIIX is an individually operated site that records and publishes technical practice, investigation, and documentation. It shares what has been built (Projects), what has been researched and written up (Library), and published tools (Tools) — while keeping what has been verified separate from what has not.

Why this site exists

Simple reason: I didn't want verified facts and finished work to get buried. Left alone, they get lost in chat logs and scattered notes, and you can't trace them back later. That's why this site exists.

The motto, “Remember the wisdom of knowing you do not know,” applies to what gets written here too. What's confirmed and what isn't get written up separately.

About the operator

mars70. Previously worked in IT, including building DNS servers and related server and domain work. I am now relearning infrastructure and security independently, while also studying AI and running this site.

Current verification, testing, and operational environment

I use Linux VPSs to run web, DNS, and mail services. I change configurations, check logs, and when something goes wrong, I work out what happened and check that it is working again.

I mainly use Linux, Nginx, DNS, Postfix / Dovecot, Fail2Ban / nftables, and Git.

An anonymized overview of two Linux VPS nodes in my personal environment. Hostnames, IP addresses, and provider names are omitted. VPS A is in Asia and VPS B is in Europe, using different hosting providers and network operators. Authoritative DNS uses primary and secondary roles.

Some of the things I have tried or investigated while operating this infrastructure are recorded in Projects and Library.

What this site covers

The topics look scattered, but they share one thing: not mixing up what's confirmed with what isn't. When relevant, the date and scope of verification are noted, and anything still unconfirmed stays labeled that way rather than being smoothed over.

Much of this site’s content is drafted with the assistance of AI. Where relevant, I also note the tools used and the scope of what was checked. See the site-wide disclaimer for more detail.
